In het oude Griekenland werd het mannelijk naakt al vroeg afgebeeld, met name in voorstellingen van atleten, helden en goden. Het vrouwelijk naakt kende een andere ontwikkeling: vrouwen en godinnen werden veel langer gekleed voorgesteld.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Een belangrijke verandering kwam er in de 4e eeuw voor onze jaartelling met de Aphrodite van Knidos van Praxiteles. De oorspronkelijke sculptuur is verloren gegaan, maar is bekend dankzij talrijke antieke versies. Ze wordt beschouwd als de eerste belangrijke Griekse voorstelling van een volledig naakte godin en oefende een grote invloed uit op de hellenistische en later de Romeinse kunst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Het vrouwelijk naakt groeide zo geleidelijk uit tot een van de belangrijke onderwerpen van de beeldhouwkunst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Van het ge\u00efdealiseerde beeld naar het levende model<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nadat het naakt in de middeleeuwse kunst veel minder aanwezig was geweest, kreeg het tijdens de renaissance opnieuw een belangrijke plaats door de herontdekking van de Grieks-Romeinse kunst. Kunstenaars grepen terug naar klassieke voorbeelden en hun ge\u00efdealiseerde verhoudingen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deze benadering kreeg later ook een vaste plaats in het kunstonderwijs. In de 18e en 19e eeuw maakte de studie van het naakt, eerst naar antieke sculpturen en later naar levend model, deel uit van de opleiding aan kunstacademies.
